Paint Failure Problems

Any experienced and skilled painter will be extremely familiar with resolving the most paint problems in a professional and effective way. However, some painters may not have the ability to deal with such problems efficiently and effectively. If you are one among them, then this blog is for you. This blog educates you on the most five common causes of paint failure and the way to resolve them.

Surface imperfections

Surface flaws are one of the most common paint problems when the job is not done perfectly. This means that the painting surface will experience rough wrinkles or creases and will offer the surface an ugly look. The only effective way to resolve this problem is removing the existing paint completely by making use of a heat gun, rubbing, and sanding the surface. Then, the rubbed surface should be applied with a premium oil-based or latex primer. Re-coating the area with external latex or with analogous high-quality paint will resolve this problem in an effective way.

Paint flaking

Flaking and chalking of paint will usually take place because the paint has insufficient flexibility and adhesion. This makes the painted surface show a loose powder. The problem can be resolved easily by making use of a paint scraper or wire brush to eliminate the loose paint. This leaves some holes or cracks, which can be fixed by applying a patching amalgam through a putty knife. A fresh paint coat can then be applied to the surface.

Alkali

The alkali is nothing but a silicate reaction, in which the clay minerals, occasionally present as contaminations, will attack the wall surface and will spoil the paint integration. This makes the color of paint fade over time. Applying the solvent-based alkali defying primer before applying the first coat of painting will retain the color of the paint for a longer period.

Moisture

This paint failure will commonly take place in areas where there is a heavy precipitation. While raining, the rainwater will penetrate into the walls, which will make the paint peel or lose its colour. Usually, the major areas in a home affected by wall dampness are bathrooms and kitchens. Painting the walls in a home with semi-gloss or satin paints, will not only offer a shining look to the walls, but they will also protect the walls from getting moisture. This means that these paints will offer a firmer finish, which offers the wall an immense resistance to dampness.

Paint cracking

This paint failure will usually occur due to application of low quality paints, and as a result, the paints will lose their flexibility and shine in due course. This problem mostly emerges during the hotter months because when the walls experience the scorching heat of the sun, they will dry quickly and the low-quality paint will start to crack. Applying high-quality paints is the only way to keep away from this paint failure.
