This fantastic kitchen in Billericay, Essex, is a perfect example of the difference a good colour choice makes, especially when combined with tasteful fittings.
While the kitchen itself has a great layout in an open space, the pale colours left it looking a little washed out against the white walls, floor and ceiling.
Introducing a bold, considered colour scheme brings the kitchen alive and makes the units pop with a sense of modern-day quality. The new brass handles and cabinet furniture give it a prestigious final touch and make it a kitchen we’d all like to spend more time in.
To get a finish that would last, we began by washing the cabinets down thoroughly with sugar soap, lifting away built-up grease and grime so the paint had a clean, sound surface to bond to. We then applied a coat of Tikkurila Otex Adhesion Primer, which grips tightly to the existing units and sets up the durability and colour of everything that follows.
For the colour itself, we applied three coats of Tikkurila Helmi 30, a hard-wearing interior wood paint in a semi-matt (30 per cent sheen) finish. Built up coat by coat for an even, flawless result, Helmi forms a tough film that stands up to repeated cleaning and the daily wear a busy kitchen sees, so the units keep looking their best for years.
The shade was mixed to the client’s exact request using Tikkurila’s colour-matching service, so the finished kitchen reflects their own vision rather than an off-the-shelf colour.
